Artfully Aging is a watercolor program designed for seniors of all skill and care levels (or no care level at all), and in all senior settings. Our program offers two ways to participate. Our in-person sessions are currently offered in the St. Louis area only, our online/internet model is offered to everyone everywhere. This article will focus on our online/internet offering that is available to all.
What exactly do we mean when we say that Artfully Aging serves all settings and care levels? Basically, it's any setting where older adults reside or frequent. This will include older adults who are living independently at home or are aging in place with a caregiver. Also included are seniors living in Senior Living Communities that offer any combination of Independent Living, Assisted Living, Long Term Care and Memory Care. Other appropriate settings include Adult Day Centers and Senior Centers.
With the focus on the experience rather than the end product, we at Artfully Aging believe everyone is an artist and that all who participate can reap the many benefits. We provide all the tools one needs to succeed. Ready to paint watercolor projects are ordered from a menu which are then shipped. Once an order is placed “How to” videos become available through a website login. These include an overview training video as well as individual project videos. Seniors and/or senior care professionals can receive training in watercolor basics as well as approaches to working with different skill and care levels.
Artfully Aging's secret to having success with all skill and care levels does not come from changing the projects to fit the group but rather from changing the expectations and approach to accommodate the participants. All projects are appropriate for all skill levels. With no previous art experience required, Artfully Aging offers an enriching art experience for the complete novice all the way to the highly trained artist and everything in between!
