Activity Director and Home Health Care FAQs

The benefits of Artfully Aging for you and the seniors you serve

At Artfully Aging, we know the stress activity directors and home care companies are under to create meaningful programs for the seniors you care for on an ever-shrinking budget.

That’s why we designed our online watercolor program to be both easy and affordable to launch. Artfully Aging provides the ideas, the supplies, and the instruction so you can deliver high-quality, engaging art activities with almost zero prep time and for only $5 per person.

If you still have questions about how Artfully Aging works, we’re here to help!

  1. Why would we choose an online art session over an in-person art class for seniors?  The experts with Artfully Aging spent more than a decade providing in-person art instruction at senior living communities across St. Louis. When COVID-19 hit, we had to adapt just like you did to ensure seniors were able to participate in engaging and therapeutic activities.

We quickly discovered that by offering seasonal- and holiday-themed projects, incorporating reminiscing prompts into our instructional videos, and providing staff with simple-to-follow training, seniors enjoyed all the benefits of an in-person class, and activity directors had the flexibility to plan activities on their schedule for a minimal investment.

Whether you’re coordinating an art class for 20 or participating in a one-on-one activity with a senior you care for, Artfully Aging can be adapted for any size group.

  2. I’m not a watercolor artist – how much training do I need to lead an art session? All Artfully Aging watercolor projects include an easily accessible, professionally-led instructional video, which provides your activity staff the training they need to guide your residents through the activity.

In addition to individual project videos, Artfully Aging offers two “Train the Trainer” tutorials – Practical Hands-On Training, which provides an overview of how our watercolor projects work and hands-on tips and techniques, and Implementing the Program, which touches on the various approaches and expectations when working with residents in different levels of care. In less than 10 minutes, you and your team can discover your inner art teacher!

Once your community becomes a program participant, all tutorials are accessible on the Video Library page of our online portal.
  1. How will launching an Artfully Aging program impact my activity budget?  Artfully Aging fits even the smallest activity budget! For just $5 per person ($25 minimum spend), your session includes prepared watercolor sheets and access to a Video Library Page on our website so you can tailor your spending to the number of participants. Art supplies, including a paintbox with brushes, artist sponges and masking tape, are also available to purchase through the Artfully Aging website.

Compared to the hundreds of dollars you would spend on weekly or monthly in-person instruction, Artfully Aging provides captivating art sessions at just a fraction of the price!
  1. Is a membership or subscription required? Not at all. You can order Artfully Aging watercolor projects for your senior living community whenever you want. However, if you do want to receive art projects on an ongoing basis, contact us at 314.968.9148, and we can create a custom program for you.

  2. How long does it take to receive our watercolor projects?  In most cases, you can expect to receive your packet within 10 days of ordering through our online shop.

  3. Can Artfully Aging be easily adapted for every level of care?  Every Artfully Aging project is designed to be all-inclusive with a person-centered approach, making it appropriate for every level of care. In most cases, residents in independent living communities can follow along with the instructional video and incorporate their own creativity into their composition.

Because assisted living and memory care residents may need more hands-on assistance, we recommend that activity staff view the project tutorials ahead of time to be prepared to guide participants through the projects effectively.

The most important thing to remember is that there is no right or wrong when it comes to art! Seniors are encouraged to express themselves freely and became engaged in the moment.
  1. I work with a home care company. Can our seniors also benefit from Artfully Aging?  Yes! Home care companies can order our art projects through our online shop just like senior living communities do. Additionally, we now offer “Aging in Place” Variety Packs specifically intended for seniors who still live in their own home. Variety packs allow you to choose four different watercolor projects, which a senior can do independently or with a loved one or caregiver. For more information on ordering our Variety Packs, call 314-598-5562.
